IDP @ Kalkulai: Agents that actually do the work

Kalkulai replaces office software with a digital coworker for skilled trades. Instead of filling out forms, a business hands KAI a task by voice, text or photo, and specialised agents carry out quotes, invoices, customer communication and scheduling autonomously, with the business owner approving the result. A working multi-agent setup already runs in production. 7 pilot companies use it today. KalkulAI is EXIST-funded and based in Munich.
Tasks
- Shared task state and typed handoffs so a master agent can delegate work to specialised agents without losing context
- Planning, delegation and recovery: choose the next step, ask targeted questions, retry failures and resume the workflow
- Domain grounding so agents work with messy, incomplete master data and the vocabulary of the trade
- Human-in-the-loop boundary: connect the existing approval and audit layer so external actions always need confirmation
- Evaluation harness, regression tests and traces for real end-to-end scenarios and failure modes
- Stack: Python, LangChain, FastAPI, pgvector, PostgreSQL, Docker

Begin: Earliest 1 September 2026, latest 1 February 2027
Duration: approx. 14 weeks (16 ECTS; 231 hours practical work plus 99 hours documentation per student)
