In Search of Sustainability Marketing Metaphors


A new book "Sustainable Leadership: Honeybee and Locust Approaches“ has just been published which takes a fresh approach to using metaphors to better understand businesses, and in this case business sustainability. One of the authors, Professor Gayle Avery of Macquarie University in Australia, explained the nature of the book as follows:

“The metaphor is based on the age-old ideas surrounding honeybees that are constructors and build organizations and high performance for the long term, versus locusts that destroy healthy businesses in the interests of short-term satisfaction. Among other things, honeybee companies value long-term relationships with many kinds of stakeholders, focus on innovation and quality, treat their employees well and retain them, seek to be highly ethical, and promote environmental and social responsibility at the highest levels.”...read more
