Fairweb – A concept to establish connections to the internet in rural Africa
As a basic requirement, access to information is becoming more and more important every year. Besides electricity and water, the continuous development of the technologies and possibilities make access to information and the Internet more important for rural Africa. To prevent that large parts of the world's population are suspended, innovative concepts are needed to integrate these people into modern developments. The potential has also been recognized by large corporations, which are already active in rural Africa and offer access for high sums. Africa GreenTec, together with the partner Nynex, has the possibility to provide an Internet access via satellite in combination with the Solartainer. The aim of the project work is to create a suitable, fair concept and financial model, with which customers can be granted access to the Internet. The objective is to be achieved through close cooperation between the students of TUM and the team of Africa GreenTec.
Metering concept - rural electricity supply with renewable energy
The supply of rural infrastructure with basic services is a central aspect of development co-operation and in the combat against migration, as well . The steady development and the cost reduction of renewable energy technologies and storage solutions are opening up potentials, to supply electricity to remote rural areas economically. Africa GreenTec has set the goal of using these potentials without development aid funds on the basis of a sustainable, self-sustaining business model to provide electricity to people in African villages. For this purpose, a special tariff system was developed for the supply-oriented supply of day and night tariffs and different performance limits for different tariff groups. Therefore, Africa GreenTec relies on reliable recording, control and billing of the electricity sold. The aim of the project is to develop a suitable electricity metering concept, which will meet the special challenges of island supply in rural Africa and the tariff model. The objective is to be achieved through close cooperation between the students of TUM and the team of Africa GreenTec.
