The goal of project studies is to gain skills and experience by working on a specific topic related to a research-oriented or practice-oriented project. Generally, students are required to solve a practical task under the joint supervision of a sustainable venture and the Chair of Corporate Sustainability. The task stems from authentic needs or challenges faced by the sustainable venture.
While working on the project study, students will be able to develop skills and experience: a) dealing with every-day challenges faced by real organizations; and b) setting a first professional relationship with the members of a sustainable venture.
The completion of the project study equals to 12 ECTS
The project study is expected to be finished within a period of about 3 months (360 h; 9 full-time weeks)
The project study is to be carried out in a team of two to four students.
The project study starts with a kick-off meeting of the students, the sustainable venture representatives and the academic supervisors. During the project study, students will be working together with both the academic supervisors and the sustainable venture representatives. Before the submission of the project study, students present their results in a final meeting with the academic supervisors and the sustainable venture representatives.
At the end of the project study, students are required to submit the following documents:
- Project study report (in printed version)
- Electronic version of the project study report (Word and PDF file)
- Electronic version of the presentation
- Raw data and analysis results
- Literature database

At TUM School of Management, we carry out teaching and research at the intersection of management and technology with a particular focus on sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs. Since 2017, TUM School of Management is part of a selected international group of business schools holding the Triple Crown Accreditation. The TUM School of Management reports to PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education), a United Nations-supported initiative founded in 2007 to nurture responsible leaders of the future. Never has this task been more important. Bold leadership and innovative thinking are needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The main tasks of this project study are
- Development of a tool for assessing the extent to which sustainability is addressed in research (publications and projects) at TUM SoM;
- Data collection;
- Sustainability assessment;
- Delineation of clear suggestions for enhancing the integration of sustainability in research at TUM SoM.
- The completion of the project study equals to 12 ECTS;
- The project study is expected to be finished within a period of 3 to 6 months (total of 360 h; 9 full-time weeks/18 part-time weeks)
- The project study is to be carried out in a team of four to five students.
