Climate Action Workshop and Simulation
As part of the TUM Sustainability Day, on 27th of October 2022 we offer an interactive workshop on Climate Action:
This activity consists of an interactive workshop with a real-life simulation using the En-ROADS simulator by Climate Interactive and the MIT Sustainability Initiative. Its goal is to gain a better understanding of how climate action from different sectors affects the worldwide climate goals and what is needed to be done to reach the 1.5°-degree limit, which was set in the Paris Agreement. Part of the workshop is going to be in form of a role-play. Participants will work in small groups and take on specific stakeholder roles such as e.g. Climate Activists, Representatives of a Conventional Energy Plant or Family Business Owners. They will then propose ideas and policies they would like to introduce in the fight against climate change. The simulator allows showing the effect of these actions in real-time leading to a unique learning experience for participants. Participants will work together to lower future global temperature rise toward the 1.5°-degree limit. After the workshop, participants will be able to:
- understand the principles of global warming and realize the urgency for climate action
- understand the impact of concrete climate actions across different sectors
- get a feeling for different stakeholders with different backgrounds and needs
- use the En-ROADS simulator as a learning tool
This workshop is open to all groups from all disciplines. Everyone from bachelor's to master students, PhD candidates, scientific researchers, university staff or professors is invited to join. There is no prior knowledge needed to attend.
