Developing a Talent Management Strategy for Japanese Multinational Companies and High-Growth Ventures

Context
Talent management has become increasingly important for companies in Japan as they navigate the challenges of an aging population, a shrinking workforce, and the need for innovation. This thesis will explore the unique aspects of talent management within the Japanese business environment and propose a framework for a future talent management strategy that aligns with the cultural and organizational contexts of Japanese companies.
Research questions
1.What are the current practices and challenges of talent management in Japanese companies?
2.How do cultural factors influence talent management strategies in Japan?
3.What are the expectations and needs of employees regarding talent management in Japanese organizations?
4.How can a talent management framework be designed to address these challenges and meet these expectations effectively?
Suggested method
Qualitative research: Conduct semi-structured interviews with HR professionals, managers, and employees across various industries in Japan to gather insights on current practices, challenges, and expectations.
Thesis objective and possible approach
This thesis aims to develop a comprehensive talent management framework tailored to the Japanese context by:
•Analyzing current talent management practices and identifying common challenges.
•Understanding the impact of cultural factors on talent management strategies.
•Identifying employee expectations and needs related to talent management.
•Synthesizing findings to propose a conceptual model for an effective talent management strategy in Japan.
Prerequisites and required skills
•Fluent in English (spoken and written)
•Solid knowledge of conducting interviews and interview coding OR solid knowledge of quantitative dataanalysis using survey data
•High analytical skills
•Great self-organization skills and ability to work with a large amount of data
•Willingness to work independently and reliably
