Research Interests
Mohammed Bendaanane is Research Associate and PhD Candidate at TUM Entrepreneurship Research Institute.
His research interests broadly focus on the role of business in addressing grand societal challenges, predominantly occurring at the intersection of entrepreneurship and poverty contexts. His current research focuses on mini-grid ventures in Kenya and their effort to electrify rural communities and enact social and economic change. In a second research stream, Mohammed focusses on informal economy entrepreneurs as they navigate necessity, poverty and violence.
His methodological approach relies a blend of qualitative and quantitative research in a phenomenon-driven fashion. He employs comparative multi-case theory building, geographic data and spatial analysis. Prior to entering academia, Mohammed worked in the field of social entrepreneurship and co-founded Amendy Foods and was an engineer specializing in 3D mapping and remote sensing in the geospatial industry.
Mohammed spent time at the University of Alberta in Canada and at Indiana University Kelley School of Business in the US. He won several prestigious awards, such as the Chevening Scholarship Award, and study grants from the US Department of State, the Coca-Cola Company, and the German Academic Exchange Network (DAAD).
